When asked what country I'm from, I've been known to say "Los Angeles." Since January 2000, my answer has been Singapore (to which I, as a very white woman, always get a raised eyebrow, and then a laugh!).

But it's true.

My adventurous husband and I, with our 2 young boys, have decided to spend the second half of our lives on the side of the globe where the action is!

Before moving to Singapore, I was 2 years in Kunming, China, studying Chinese and teaching English on TV (demo tapes are not available). This stretching, sometimes thrilling, often boring life in China followed 12 years of working in Los Angeles as a theatre actor, director, coach, producer, and writer. In these roles I was actually paid from time to time, though rarely the big bucks. This would primarily be due to the fact that many of my jobs were for local churches. If I am an expert in anything, it would be in the area of short scenes used in worship, or Xiao Ping (China). It's a wonderful medium for developing new actors, and doesn't take much money to produce!

What I'm most passionate about is seeing people in the Arts come to know personally the one true Creator God. But, empowering Christians to make better use of theatre arts is a close second.

It grieved me that our Creator has for centuries been represented in the Arts with embarrassing mediocrity. It's time to change that! He has created the Arts to have the power to speak to men and women's souls like nothing else on earth. The experience of live theatre is especially powerful in breaking down walls in order to build people up, but only if it is done well. There's the rub.

These are exciting times for Artists in Singapore, but I'm sure most will agree there is a desperate need not just for funding, but for the development of true craftsmen & women. I've spent the majority of my adult life focused on the craft of acting, and look forward to finding my niche with Singaporeans who are equally committed to excellence in Theatre.

This desire to promote "excellence" in art is not necessarily in conflict with my desire to encourage all people to live more creatively. I'd like finding blocked artists (no matter what their profession or religion), and see them recover or discover their God given creative spirit. In this pursuit, we've all got to start somewhere, and in doing so, give each other the freedom and affirmations we need to begin our artistic endeavors like little children.

As a mother of two young children my interest in teaching drama has taken an added dimension in Singapore. I'm now a student of storytelling and teaching drama workshops for children's workers. In these workshops, we not only get to cultivate our own creativity; but we also get to take what we learn and start planting the seeds of creativity in the garden of children's hearts. As much as possible, using the Arts to nurture children will help them grow up strong & healthy of heart, with a keen awareness of the beauty in our world and an intimate relationship with our Creator God and loving heavenly Father.
